why the hell is queercore so cool??

Ok.

So maybe it has just a little (a lot) to do with the fact that I just got back from a trip back home to Seattle. And maybe it has something to do with my obsession with everything 90's, but what I really wanna know is, why the hell is queercore so fucking cool??

Ok. Maybe if you don't really know what Queercore is, then lemme give you a brief overview:

Queercore was an offshoot of punk rock, which really started in the late 1980s and continued until the early 2000's. It is largely associated with music, but it was borne out of the punk zines of the era. In fact, queer filmmaker Bruce LaBruce is credited with being one of the founders of the scene, with his zine, J.D.s. The zine included stories written by LaBruce and photos and artwork by other contributing artists involved in the scene.

Queercore culture is characterized by punk rock, musically. Socially it is characterized by a general genderfuck attitude and the rejection of the consumerism of mainstream society. The zines of the day (this is largely pre-internet) made the scene grow, introduced people to new bands, who would have ordinarily had little exposure, and brought people together.

These are some better known queercore bands who you gotta check out:

Fifth Column, God Is My Co-Pilot, Pansy Division, PME, Sister George,  Team Dresch, Tribe 8, and Mukilteo Fairies!

This is one of my all time faves from Pansy Division:
