Tiana Reeves is so over vogueing...and she's not afraid to tell you why

By Tiana Reeves

Hello to the people that know me, and to those who should have known me for years. My name is Tiana Reeves. Hang on tight because AntiTwink.com has given me a platform, an outlet to voice my many opinions that allows me to write more than 140 characters. Here we go…

I have been doing this New York City nightlife thing for many years—I used to work for the infamous Peter Gatien, if that tells you anything. Yes, I’ve been there, done that, lived through it all. Throughout the years, I have been around many names and many faces. I have noticed and experienced all the looks and fads, music genres, club openings and closings, and have dealt with many wonderful people. Of course, there have been the inevitable douche bags and people who I try to avoid—you know who they are! They think their shit don't stink, and two years later they’re drinking at a bar in Idaho, back where they belong!

Recently, I have seen quite the resurgence—and God know why—of, yes, vogueing. I'm seeing it in every club, that little group of people that take up way too much space on the dance floor, and they look like they are swatting the flies away.

Please remember, I have been around for quite some time, so I recall when vogueing was all the rage, so avant guarde. And this was before Miss Madonna ever plucked it up and took it mainstream. I have been to vogue battles and to those retarded “balls” where people compete in categories for some cheap plastic trophy to feel so fabulous. Ugh, so irritating! The need to feel validated by entering into some silly competition bores me.

And don't get me started on the “houses.” House of this, House of that. Oh please! Houses are the gay version of being in a rag tag street gang. I understand the desire and need to belong to a group of friends and make it a surrogate family because your mommy and daddy can't stand you anymore, so they decided to kick your ass out right on the street (you and your crunch crunch face), but your sob story ends with me.

Anyhow, back to vogueing. I don't know why gay people never did let go of this thing, but it makes you look tired and outdated. You do not see any artist vogueing these days, carrying on like a fool, and do you know why? Because it's over! Tired! Stick a fork in it. It’s done!

Wouldn't it be great to see the gay community start a new underground movement? Like vogueing, which started decades ago, and the balls, which started under a different premise. The community can do better. What I've seen is disastrous, with some queen getting drunk, carrying on, and “battling” this house and that house.

So please refrain from vogueing, it's just not cute anymore. Don't turn into some old, has-been queen who wants to bring back some tired trend. To all of you night crawlers, let’s end the trend and I say...OH GOOD GLAMOUR!
