TheGetDownnn's TOP 10 SONGS OF THE WEEK!

Matty Slick-Haxx

Let me be the first to introduce to TheGetDownnn, a music blog based out of the sunny desert we all know as Arizona. Now, if it wasn't obvious by their name, these guys know how to fucking shake it! I have had the pleasure of knowning the man behind this amazing musical source for quite some time and it was decided by the powers that be that we needed to join forces and start working together. I couldn't be more excited if I was shoving my fist in a can of crisco inching towards the Black Party!

TheGetDownnn will be doing a weekly Top Ten list of all the tunes that you SHOULD be listening to but AREN'T. What does this mean? Well, we're going to get your music tastes out of the gutter and away from those vile divas called "pop-stars". This is everything, everything you could have asked for but wouldn't. YOU'RE WELCOME!

Top Ten Songs You SHOULD Be Listening To Week #1

by TheGetDownnn

10) The Knocks, R.O.Y.L
The Knocks - Ben “B-Roc” Ruttner and James “Jpatt” Patterson - garnered their name from the early days of their production career when both worked out of home studios and constantly had to worry about the barrage of "knocks" from their relatively annoyed next door neighbors. The duo's latest effort, an EP titled "Magic" features 2 original choons with disco roots and fantastic vocal work. A feel good, on key, dance party awaits.

9) Lovebirds, Want You In My Soul Feat. Stee Downes (3Hundreds Remix)

3hundreds are a DJ/producer outfit based out of Australia with a discography that covers multiple genres and sounds. Remixing Lovebirds' "Want You in my Soul" is one of the group's best moves yet, as it takes a song with R&B-reminiscent lyricisms and equips it with a danceable element that was missing before. Stee Downes vocals sound great on top of the added bubbly synth pads, and although the track isn't going to make a dance floor go nuts, its a great way to close the night out.

8) Ink Project, Eye of Glass

In the same vein of acts like Portishead, Sneaker Pimps and Lovage, the UK's Ink Project pairs sultry, pitch perfect vocals over deep, slow-moving and melodic backgrounds. "Inside the Sun" the group's new full length album is a trip hop junky's dream-come-true, and "Eye of Glass" is without a doubt the album's stand out track. If you're feeling hopeful, yet-mildly dark and brooding, this is a track for you.

7) Fuzzy Cuzzin, Canis

Progressive house synths, 8-bit arpeggios and feel good vocals make for the pool-side song of the summer (before it's summer). Meet Fuzzy Cuzzin, a producer currently flying under the radar with a genius grasp of how to get a crowd dancing without any over-the-top gimmicks.

6) Holy Ghost! Wait and See (Christian Strobe Remix)

Holy Ghost! & Christian Strobe in the same title line? Track has C-L-A-S-S-I-C written all over it. Via Strobe himself: ”wait and see is definitly one of my favorite pop tunes in 2011. I really love the piano tones…it reminds me of “Head over Wheels” by Tears For Fears. Fuck yeah! <3 80ies!!”

5) Drake Ft. Rihanna, Take Care (Mike Irish Remix)

The latest remix effort from Irish is a bit drawn out (the track clocks in at just over 10 minutes) but there’s a reason for that (effect), and by adding HUGE breakdowns, energy-packed builds and of course–the original choon’s vocal samples–he’s got another dance floor hit on his hands. The perfect track for those of you that are in to Top 40 pop, but are open to the idea of new ideas and elements re-inventing a song that's already getting a lot of coverage.

4) Oh My! Dirty Dancer (Unicorn Kid Remix)

Following the viral pop avalanche the Oh My! girls started across the interwebs, the duo is now making their way out of the underground with an insanely catchy yet relatively simple pop belter “Dirty Dancer“. Producer Unicorn Kid (aka: Oliver Sabin) decided to fuse the track with his own 8-bit sounds, and a generous helping of steel drums, and the resulting remix is dance floor equipped and ready to unleash upon a room full of party-minded folks.

3) Audiodax, Smile

Pop/hip-hop wunderkinds, Audiodax, are back with their own brand of infectious hooks and pool-party friendly lyrics, this time with a new original mix titled ”Smile” and if it doesn’t make you do just that–smile–there just might be a touch of Ebenezer Scrooge DNA in you. A ridiculously catchy melody, complimented by pop vocals,  hip-hop lines, acoustic guitar and backing synths makes for a track worthy of  top 40 radio, but also a track faaar better than your typical top 40 fare.

2) Roman D'Amour, Make Love Tonight

Roman D'amour‘s disco-influenced “Make Love Tonight” is the latest release via LIFELIKE's Computer Science imprint, and although its been making the internet rounds for a couple of weeks now, the song is just too dancey to not give deserving coverage. D'amour is the production moniker for Paris-based teenager, Benoit Villemont, an artist already making big splashes within the world-renowned French disco/house scene.

1) Deadmau5, Aural Psynapse (Myndset Remix)

Take one of the world's most well known producers, andd pair him with one of the west coast's most versatile up-and-comers. What do you get? A Myndset remix of Aural Psynapse, and the resulting choon? Pure dance floor madness. it's a little heavy on the electro touches, but (in my opinion) no one's remixed this track better.
