Go To Here: Caligula Maximus

A mad, depraved Roman emperor. A feverish, orgiastic bachanal. The thumping, pulsing beat of the disco-era. Toss in some super sexy aerialists, a superbly endowed horse and an antagonistic peanut vendor and you have the inspired theatrical/nightlife hybrid that is The Saint at Large's Caligula Maximus. Far from you traditional musical theater experience, this version of Caligula sees the infamous Roman emperor (Jamin Ruhren, a.k.a. drag superstar Acid Betty) presiding over strange live acts on the eve of his assasination. The show combines musical numbers with circus performances and the sort of over-the-top sexualized feats that have made The Saint at Large's Black Party famous. Nightlife denizens like electro pop star Kayvon Zand, burlesque queen Stormy Leather and up-and-coming go-go studs like Jay Roth and aerialist Matthew Griffin round out the cast of scantily clad revelers drifting in and among the audience throughout Caligula's penultimate soiree. And with the audience literally a part of the party—the production includes a pre-show fete and post-show dancing—it's hard not to get caught up in Caligula's seductive celebrations. Think Cique du Soleil meets Hedwig, with a healthy dose of The Donkey Show thrown in. Party while the empire crumbles around you!
