Smith tells the story of her relationship with artist Robert Mapplethorpe and the transformations that they both went through from the 60s up until his death from AIDS. Seriously. Read this book and then take a walk through the East Village. Or Chelsea. Or every other location mentioned by Smith. The history of the city will come to life!
