Earl vs. Fire Island
Looks like hurricane Earl is gonna put a bit of a dent in your Fire Island Labor Day plans. We've been hearing talk all week about the possibility of a mandatory evacuation of Fire Island at some point this weekend, due to the category 4 storm's projected course. We got word yesterday that Daniel Nardicio has rescheduled his DWorld Underwear Party at the Cherry Grove's Ice Palace to Saturday night—a move that he says will be permanent for the last few weeks of the seaon.
And today Queerty is linking to a report on MyFoxNY.com indicating that ferry service to Fire Island will be suspended from 3pm Friday til around 7am Saturday. Of course, the MyFoxNY story only mentions ferries leaving from Bay Shore, and everyone knows that ferries to the Pine and Cherry Grove leave from Sayville. (Duh, Queerty!)
There's no word on the Sayville Ferry's website about whether they're suspending service to the Grove and the Pines yet, but if you're planning on heading out to the island tomorrow, we'd suggest giving them a call before hand.
