AntiTwink's New Year's Party Guide

New Year's Eve New York City, Manhattan, NYC, Times Square, NYE parties, Josh Wood, Splash, Evolve, Victor Calderone, Junior Vasquez, Pacha, Matinee, Formika, Max Rodriguez, John Cameron Mitchell

Whether you're a muscle queen, an A list gay or a downtown diva, we know exactly where you should be partying this New Year's Eve!

We know a lot of cynical queens in this city think of New Year’s Eve—like Halloween and Gay Pride—as amateur night: one of those nights when people who don’t normally go out and party hit the streets, crowding the bars, filling cabs and generally irritating those of us for whom nightlife happens more than once a year. And believe us, we see their point. But that won’t stop us from having a kick-ass time this New Year’s Eve.

We fully anticipate parties like Evolve (Roseland Ballroom, 239 W 52nd, 5am–8pm, $55–$85) and Matinée (Pacha, 618 W 46th St, matineenewyork.com, 212-209-7500, noon–8pm, $59–$225), which don’t even start until well after midnight, to be filled with tweeked out tourists and meat heat Chelsea boys. But, hey, if that’s your thing, we’re sure you’ll have a blast rubbing up against all those sweaty, shirtless muscle queens.

With New Year’s Eve falling on a Friday this year, Splash’s year-end bash (50 W 17th St, splashbar.com, 212-691-0073, 10pm, $30) is bound to be a frothy combination sexy gay subcultures, with Formika’s FWord freaks reigning supreme downstairs, and hot out-of-towners burning up the dance floor to DJs Junior Vasquez and Max Rodriguez on the main level.

If you’re in the mood for something a little more classy, there’s always Josh Wood and FornabaioVoss’s second annual Black & White Ball at the historic—and ultra swank—Angel Orensanz Center (172 Norfolk Street, joshwoodproductions.com, 9pm, $100–$2,500). The Perry Twins will be spinning this gorgeous affair, with entertainment by Cherie Lily, Andrew W.K., Chevonne, Roxy Cottontail and a major surprise guest. And in case you’re wondering about that $2,500 cover, that’s for those super gAy list types who what to reserve one of eight private balconies. Know any of those?

While all of those parties sound like a super duper good time, we’ll be honest, we’re more of the downtown type of faggots. We’d much rather strip down to our undies and hang with porn stud Owen Hawk at Daniel Nardicio’s A Night in Amsterdam at Rockbar (185 Christopher St, 212-675-1864, DWorld.us, midnight–2pm, $25–$50). For a more low-key New Year’s Eve, we recommend Earl Dax’s Easy Street (Dixon Place, 161A Chrystie St, brownpapertickets.com/event/142141, 9pm, $20). Superstar director and downtown icon John Cameron Mitchell provides the soundtrack along with DJs Tusk, K!o and Gant Johnson, while Penny Arcade emcees the show, featuring performances by Glenn Marla, Machine Dazzle, Diego Montoya and many more.

And what would New Year’s Eve be without a Fag Bash? Hostess with the mostest Ladyfag is sure to attract only the hottest gay boys to Woody’s for her New Year’s soiree (2nd St and 2nd Ave, 10pm–6am, $15), featuring dirty disco courtesy of DJ Honey Dijon.

So there it is, AntiTwinkateers: your New Year’s Eve agenda. We’ll see you in 2011!
