Duck dynasty ratings fall after controversy

According to EW Duck Dynasty’s premiere was down 28% from it’s previous premiere in August.  So while it could be due to just the fluctuation  of viewership (apparently it was up from the last season finale) the reality is that their viewership decreased.  This could be due to a lot of things, the gay controversy is what seems to be the likeliest,  as it had a couple effects.  1) it pissed people off, and we have just as many straight allies in the country as we do opposition (possibly more when you look at the favorability for gay marriage in the polls),  and 2) with Robertson suspended, they couldn’t do promotion like they would have normally.

In any case whether it’s people boycotting the series because they don’t agree with his statements or whether the controversy put a major wrench in promotions, it’s a good sign.  It points to consequences for actions like this, so that people are less likely to do it in media, either for personal reasons, or to spike controversy as some alleged that A&E was doing this to spike ratings.  Either way there are consequences.
